The women who “like” the MuTu System Facebook page are a thoughtful bunch, not to mention caring + wise!
That’s why I gave them the job this week of answering an email I received from a lady seriously in need of a hug… albeit a virtual one!
Talking about her lack of drive to improve her body, she said:
“… My biggest obstacle is that I look at myself in the mirror and just feel completely demotivated. I feel as if nothing is going to move this huge mound of quivering flab that is now my tummy. I know that if I take it one step at a time I will achieve something. The ‘other voice’ inside my head, however, tells me that I am too far-gone to ever get my body back… How do I kill that voice?”
Instead of giving my ‘professional trainer’ answer, which, no matter how sincere, could have come across as too impersonal or self-serving, I put her question out there to my MuTu System “likers”.
I knew they’d have some good ideas for this mama desperately seeking her Mojo.
And they didn’t let me down.
Here are some of their sage words – good advice for any mum feeling daunted by the task of getting their body in shape.
“The moment you’re ready to quit is usually the moment right before a miracle happens, don’t give up!”
“I tell myself to focus on the long term and start healthy habits now, for myself and to set an example for my kids.”
“If your body can do something as spectacular as grow a new human being, something as relatively simple as firming up your tummy is a piece of cake.”
“You ‘kill that voice’ by doing the MuTu Focus program. Do not give up hope, this program will help pull in your tummy and make you feel so much better.”
“Concentrate on what you’d like to do physically. I wanted to find the strength and energy to run round after my two year old. He doesn’t care what I look like, just what I do.”
“Please tell her that she silences the voice by taking A STEP, just one. And then another, and another, focusing on consistency, not immediate results.”
“This is a quote (not from me, probably from an inspirational sportsperson) – “You miss 100% of the shots you never take”. Go for it, lady.”
“I’d recommend that every time she hears the nasty voice, she shuts it up by doing something good for her body. It doesn’t matter whether that’s a big thing (run, swim, bike ride) or something smaller (quick stretch, sits up straighter, engages her core, takes a deep breath).”
“Every single positive choice (fruit v choc, workout v Facebook etc) you make each day makes a difference – like a brick in the road to where you want to go. You can do it.”
There were many more brilliant, heartfelt comments – and I’m pleased to say that this feedback did something to uplift and inspire the lady who asked for advice.
Can I just add one little nugget? You are not alone – many mums share these feelings, whether it’s mild frustration about your maternal body shape, or full blown self-disgust. Asking for help – from a professional trainer, and/or from other mums – is a must.
You’ll find bucket loads of empathy, support and inspiration if you go looking! The lovely ladies who “like” our MuTu System page, are not a bad place to start if you want a few words of encouragement to put you on a more positive track!
